Two sewage treatment plants to be set up at Villupuram

VILLUPURAM: Two sewage treatment plants will be set up at Ka. Kuppam and Erumanthal in Villupuram as part of an underground drainage project being executed by the Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage Board, according to Gagandeep Singh Bedi, Managing Director, TWAD Board.
He was speaking to officials after inspecting the project works on Monday.
Mr. Bedi said that while one of the treatment plants would be set up at a cost of Rs. 9 crore to treat nine million litres of a day, another plant would be set up at a cost of Rs. 4.5 crore and treat three million litres of sewage a day. The treated water would be free from odour or sullage and could be used for industrial and agricultural purposes. Of the total distance of 86 km taken up under the underground project, 76 km had been covered so far and roads re-laid on 51 km of the completed portion. As regards places falling under the jurisdiction of the National Highways and the Railways, permission was awaited to take up the project.
