Rs. 17.67 crore for preliminary relief works in Cuddalore

CUDDALORE: The State government has made an initial allocation of Rs. 17.67 crore to Cuddalore district for carrying out preliminary relief works in flood-affected areas, according to Collector P. Seetharaman.
The amount has been earmarked for the following purposes: repairing the highways – Rs. 7 crore; rural roads – Rs. 5 crore; municipal roads – Rs. 1.35 crore; for improving water sources such as lakes, tanks and canals – Rs. 4.32 crore.
The fund allocation for the municipal roads would be made as follows: Cuddalore municipality (14 km stretch of road) – Rs. 70 lakh; Chidambaram (8 km) – Rs. 40 lakh; and Vriddhachalam (5 km) – Rs. 25 lakh.
In a statement released here, the Collector also said that the government was likely to sanction an additional fund of Rs. 10 crore for road works. The floods had claimed the lives of 18 persons and 315 cattle heads in the district.
So far, a solatium of Rs. 2 lakh each had been given to the families of seven victims and Rs. 8.61 lakh to owners of 224 cattle heads, including 49 bullocks, 49 calves and 126 goats.
As per the estimate, a total of 1,162 huts were fully damaged and 14,595 huts partly damaged. A compensation of Rs. 45.70 lakh had been given to 914 fully damaged huts (at the rate of Rs. 5,000 each) and Rs. 36.60 lakh to 1,264 partly damaged huts (at the rate of Rs. 2,500 each).
The Collector has appealed to the elected representatives of local bodies, including chairpersons of panchayat unions, town panchayats and municipalities to extend full cooperation to the officials to expedite the relief works.
Villupuram
Villupuram Collector R.Palanisamy has said that the government increased the initial allocation for flood relief to the district from Rs. 9.75 crore to Rs. 11.60 crore.
The amount would be spent as follows: for repair works to roads in Villupuram division – Rs. 2.70 crore; road works in Kallakurichi division – Rs. 2.50 crore; for improving water sources – Rs. 1.50 crore; rural areas – Rs. 4.50 crore; and to municipal administration - Rs. 39.75 lakh.
The share of the municipalities would be: Villupuram municipality – Rs. 4.75 lakh; Tindivanam – Rs. 30 lakh; and Kallkurichi – Rs 5 lakh.
Mr Palanisamy also said that so far a solatium of Rs. 53 lakh was given away to the families of 28 flood victims, Rs. 1.37 lakh to owners of cattle heads and Rs. 64.77 lakh to 2,100 damaged houses.
