Collector inspects drinking water scheme work

TIRUNELVELI: Collector M. Jayaraman, who accords priority for the speedy implementation of drinking water projects in the district and regular supply to the public, inspected the ongoing work of the Sankarankovil–Alangulam Combined Drinking Water Scheme surprisingly on Wednesday.

Mr. Jayaraman, who went to the major pumping station of this project being erected at Mukkoodal, asked the TWAD Board officials to execute the work at the earliest.

After inspecting the implementation of the project at Alangulam, he visited 94 wayside beneficiary habitations, including Nandhanthattai, Kandapatti, Natchiyaarpuram, Ooththumalai, Madaththupatti, Ariyanayagipuram and Veerasigamani, before reaching Sankarankovil. When he found that the pumping equipments installed in these pumping stations were not so powerful, he told them that the district administration would give Rs.59.70 lakh for procuring powerful pumps.

“We should be able to supply protected drinking water in adequate quantity to residents,” Mr. Jayaraman told the officials.

He also inspected the Adi Dravida Welfare Hostel at Ooththumalai and Veerasigamani and interacted with the .
