Madurai, April 27 Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) is working on the establishment of an ‘Aero Park’ near Chennai, according to Mr C.K. Ranganathan, Chairman, Tamil Nadu State Council.

Unveiling the agenda for the year 2009-10, the newly elected Chairman said that the proposed park, which requires around 4,000 acres, would facilitate an investment of Rs 45,000 crore till 2015 and provide direct employment to one lakh people.

The Park would attract global players and engage in the design, manufacture and maintenance of all types of aircrafts for both the civil and military programmes, including training and education. “The Government is also keen on the project,” he said in a press meet.

Mentoring concept

Another key initiative is the preparation of a development plan for each district. For the development of the medium, small and micro enterprises (MSMEs), the mentoring concept — where successful entrepreneurs would guide the new ones — will be given thrust.

It has also been proposed to work at the top level management of companies to promote and execute the transformational ideas evolved by CII. During the year, CII will come up with an action plan to resurrect agriculture through promotion of affordable mechanisation, he said.

Asked about the economic scenario, he said that the situation should be better by the third quarter of 2009-10.

Earlier, the newly elected Chairman of CII, Madurai Zone, Mr Bharath K.S., outlining the agenda for the Zone for the year 2009-10, said that the theme ‘Advantage South Tami Nadu’ would be carried forward. In the implementation of the District Development Plans evolved by CII, the thrust areas would be health care, up-gradation of skills, tourism and development of business.

Monthly plans

A detailed month-wise work plan in the respective areas has been drafted for implementation. These include holding conferences with focus on family business, health care, skill development covering catering colleges, schools for improving quality, a three-day tourism event, six Star-trek sessions with successful entrepreneurs, capacity building sessions for MSMEs and creation of awareness on environmental issues. International air-connectivity for Madurai would be pursued, he added.
