Log in to dispose e-waste

Staff Reporter

If you have e-waste in your neighbourhood and do not know how to dispose it without causing any damage to the environment, just log in towww.ewaste.in.

Recently, members of the Green Brigade club in Anna University pitched in to raise awareness of the website and the benefits of recycling e-waste. The website is run by a company called SIMS recycling solutions. “This is a free website and anyone can register,” said Anand Narasimhan, managing director of the firm. On becoming a co-ordinator, those who register can collect e-waste such as discarded electronic and electrical items. “We will send trucks and collect the waste from them,” said Mr. Anand.

The waste is recycled at MEPZ in Tambaram. “They have to provide us with their bank account number or that of the residents’ welfare association. We will send them the money after recycling,” said Mr. Narasimhan.

This money can be used to set up facilities for proper collection of e-waste.

“A total of 60 students registered and we were able to collect waste to fill a small truck. They disposed the e-waste they had and also promised to do so regularly in the neighbourhoods they live in. We get Rs. 10 per kg,” said Divya Bharati, president of Green Brigade in Anna University.
