Mayor puts Credai road work on track

Chennai: Chennai mayor Saidai S. Duraisamy on Thursday kickstarted the road be­autification project, a CSR initiative of Con­federation of Real Estate Developers Association of India (Credai), in association with the corporation of Chennai

Instructing  civic engineers to provide basic de­tails required for the bea­utification project and to coordinate with the Cre­dai team, Duraisamy advised corporation field workers to periodically clear the silt that accumulated along footpaths.

Sandeep Mehta, president, Credai, said, “This is our CSR initiative and we want to make  a marked difference in the conservancy operations. We will engage outside agencies for  maintenance and cleaning. Dedi­cated conservancy workers will be put to work in a four-hour shift basis twice daily to ensure litter free roads.

The medians, traffic islands on the assigned roads will also be maintained. The team will report damages in civic infrastructure to  co­rporation. Watering of plants on me­dians, aesthetics of tr­a­ffic islands, removal of unauthorised banners and wa­ll posters, pruning of tre­es along the roads and facilitating ad­e­quate illumination at ni­ght will al­so be undertaken by Credai, he added.

According to city corporation sources,  in the first phase, 12 roads have been assigned to Credai Chennai for facelift. The roads include  EVK Sampath Salai, Jothi Venkatachalam Salai, Vepery High Road, Raja Muthaiah  Road, Gangadeeswarar Koil Street, Gandhi Irwin Road, Purasawalkam  High  Road, Raja Annamalai Road, Narayana Guru Salai, Police Commissioners Road, Pantheon Road and Whannels Road.
