Special Correspondent

It is official now. Both Mayor Mohd. Majid Hussain and GHMC Commissioner M.T. Krishna Babu have accepted that the ongoing storm water drains desilting work was slow with just 65 per cent of work completed. However, they assured to take steps to engage more men and machinery to expedite the work.

The two on Thursday inspected desilting works in several storm water drains like Balkapur nala from Banjara function hall to the stretch up to Ahmed Nagar, Road No. 1, pension payment office, Murad Nagar, Gudimalkapur, Khaja Nagar and Bhola Nagar.

They also noticed several unauthorised constructions en route and directed the town planning wing to remove them. BJP floor leader B. Prakash complained about left over silt garbage, debris etc at different places. He also requested shifting the fruit vendors at Gudimalkapur market as the waste material was being thrown into the nala.

Mr. Krishna Babu said retaining walls would be constructed wherever necessary to curb the menace of regular dumping. He also said that 150 stagnation points were identified.
