Desilting works to end by month end, say officials

HYDERABAD: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation ( GHMC) commissioner MT Krishna Babu has directed the engineering officials to complete desilting works of nalas by the end of this month. He asked the officials to complete works by engaging more labourers as only 65% of the desilting work has been completed so far.

The commissioner along with mayor Mohd Majid Hussain inspected the ongoing desilting works in Balkapur nala from Banjara function hall to stretch up to Ahmednagar, Road No 1 of Banjara Hills, Pension payment office, Murad Nagar, Khaja Nagar and Bhola Nagar on Thursday.

The mayor and commissioner observed that many encroachments have come up on the nala beds at Bada Bazaar Bridge and Osman PT Bridge and directed the deputy municipal commissioner of cirlce no.7 to remove all the unauthorized encroachments with the help of the town planning wing immediately.

They asked the chief engineer to construct the retaining walls along the nalas wherever necessary to prevent dumping in drains by the locals.

Mayor directed the commissioner to modernise the central emergency squad with sufficient machinery and labour so that the emergency squad can tackle the emergent situations without any inconvenience. The commissioner informed that 150 stagnation points have been identified and sanctions have already been accorded and the works are in progress likely to be completed by June end.
