Cenotaph Road flyover to be ready next month

STATUS CHECK: Deputy Chief Minister M.K. Stalin inspects the flyover coming up at the Turn Bulls Road–Cenotaph Road junction in Chennai on Thursday.
CHENNAI: The construction of the flyover at the Turn Bulls Road–Cenotaph Road junction is nearly complete and will be inaugurated by Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi by the end of October, said Deputy Chief Minister M.K. Stalin.
Speaking to reporters here on Thursday after inspecting the flyover under construction, Mr. Stalin said that the flyover, being constructed on 12 pillars, is eight metres wide and 458 metres long. The project cost amounts to nearly Rs.20 crore, he said.
The road width beneath the flyover, including the pavement space, is six metres. The construction of the flyover began in February and is expected to ease traffic flow around the intersection.
Mr. Stalin said that several ongoing infrastructure projects would also be completed by the end of October.
The vehicular subway coming up on Jones Road, Saidapet, at a cost of Rs.7.33 crore would be ready for use by the end of October. The subway is 303.67 metres long and 5.5 metres wide. The elevated bridge on Alandur Road being constructed across the Adyar at a cost Rs. 6.3 crore would also be ready soon.
Administrative sanction
“The government has granted administrative sanction for the construction of the Vysarpadi-Ganesapuram flyover and land acquisition process was in progress,” he said.
On merging the city’s suburban areas and forming two additional corporations, Mr. Stalin said that the CMDA submitted its statement to the Chief Minister on Wednesday.
Mayor M. Subramanian, Corporation Commissioner Rajesh Lakhoni and Opposition floor leader Saidai Ravi were present.
