Rs 40 crore project to provide IT backbone to Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation

AHMEDABAD: To ensure that all core functions of the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) are supported by a common information technology (IT) backbone, Rs 39.90 crore IT project has been approved by JNNURM committee. As part of the project, the main municipal functions - collecting property tax, complaint redressal, registration and licensing - would be put on one platform. This is the first time that such a concerted effort is being made to integrate IT functions of AMC. The AMC plans to assign the job to TCS but is pending standing committee approval.

"IT-based record keeping and processing in various engineering and clerical functions already happens, but all the related functions are not integrated. There are different software installed in different departments which have been customized for their functions. This cannot work in the long run. The JNNURM project primarily addresses these aspects," says a senior AMC official.

When asked about the intelligent traffic management systems that were to be set up with the help of Japanese experts, the official said, "There will be joint meeting of the AMC and the traffic police in this regard. A delegation had visited the AMC recently."
