Civic employees to get lessons in work skill development

NASHIK: The employees of the Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) will get lessons on developing their work skills and enhance efficiency during a two-day training workshop starting from January 16.

The NMC has appointed the Bangalore-based Urban Development Research Institute for the workshop.

"Such training workshops are part of our policy for our employees. The training is required as many a time, the employees are transferred to other departments. This workshop is meant for the administrative, health, town planning, tax, accounts departments among others. We are yet to finalize the venue for the workshop," said an NMC official.

There are about 6,000 employees in various departments across all six divisions of the NMC- Nashik East, Nashik West, Satpur, Panchavati, Cidco and Nashik Road. Around 1,000 posts are lying vacant in many departments.

"As there is already shortage of manpower in the municipal corporation, our focus is on improving the skills and efficiency of our employees. We are also planning to fill up the vacant posts," the official said.

The civic body has spent around 30% of the money allocated in the budget on administrative work, so far. There has been no recruitment in the NMC for 10 years now. The growth rate of the city has been progressive, which has put more burden on the health, water supply and drainage departments, the official said.
