Nashik Municipal Corporation to construct 5 water tanks in time for Kumbh

NASHIK: The standing committee of the Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) on Friday approved the construction of five water tanks in the city, at a cost of Rs 11.63 crore in view of the 2015 Kumbh Mela.

Of the five tanks, two are to be constructed in the Panchavati division - at prabhag no. 15 and prabhag no. 11 - while one each will be constructed in the Nashik West, Cido and Satpur divisions of the civic body.

The NMC has finalized the tender process and the contractors for the proposed water tanks. "Proposals of the civic body to award the contracts for the construction of the water tanks have been approved," said NMC standing committee chairman Ramesh Dhongade.

U M Dharmadhikari, executive engineer (distribution), water supply department of the NMC, said, "The population of the city is increasing, with more and more high-rises coming up. The water tanks have been planned considering the water requirement in several Nashik areas."

However, Nashik citizens feel that just water tanks alone will not offer a solution and many said that there was a need for proper management of the water supply in the city. "We have adequate water tanks in the Cidco area, but there is only a single pipeline through for the supply. The same pipeline is used to supply water to the Satpur division," said a Cidco resident.
