As many as 40 unauthorised hoardings and flex banners that were kept in violation along arterial roads in the city were removed by Corporation workers, here on Wednesday.

Illegal hoardings and digital banners along the arterial roads and at other public places have mushroomed in the city recently.

Though a few hoardings were erected after obtaining permission from the civic body, many hoardings violated the rules disturbing free flow of traffic.

Other hoardings were put up without obtaining permission due to the poor monitoring mechanism by the authorities in the four Corporation zones. Though the issue was raised in the council meetings many times, no action had been taken.

On Wednesday, workers removed 18 hoardings that were found violating the norms, including erection of hoardings beyond the permitted size. Also, 22 unauthorised hoardings were removed. The hoardings were removed from Hasthampatti Roundtana, Cherry Road, Vincent bus stop and Ramakrishna Road. Officials said that the drive would continue.
