Protest against water supply problem

Problem will be set right in two days, says official

Up in arms: Activists of Karnataka Rakshana Vedike during a protest in front of the Raichur CMC office on Saturday.

Raichur: Activists of Raichur district unit of Karnataka Rakshana Vedike took out a procession and locked the City Municipal Council (CMC) office on Saturday to protest against “failure” of officials concerned to ensure proper drinking water supply in the city.

They also demanded resignation of all members of the CMC for “failing” to ensure proper drinking water supply.

The activists, who went in a procession from the Station Road, staged a dharna in front of the CMC office. They locked the office when officials concerned failed to respond to their demands.

However, they ended their agitation after Ramachandra, CMC Commissioner, along with M. Eranna, councillor and former president of the CMC, assured them of solving the problem in two days.

In a memorandum, they said that residents of Raichur city had been facing acute shortage of water for the past two months. The district administration should review the situation and initiate measures immediately to solve the problem. Water supply to the city has been severely affected for last one week as supply has been cut off from the Krishna Water Works following leakage in the pipeline on the outskirts of the city.

Residents have said that lack of coordination between councillors and officials concerned in handling the situation had worsened the problem.
