“Rs. 47.35 crore for works under NREGS”

A total of 4,747 houses to be constructed under Indra Awaz Yojana
THANJAVUR: A total of 4,747 houses were being constructed under Indra Awaz Yojana Scheme in Thanjavur district at a cost of Rs. 16.61 crore according to M. S. Shanmugham, Collector.
Speaking at the District Planning Committee meeting here on Tuesday, Mr. Shanmugham said that 1,233 Kacha houses would be improved at a cost of Rs. 1.84 crore this year in the district.
Sanitation programme
Under total sanitation programme a sum of Rs. 8.75 crore had been allotted to the district for construction of 35,000 toilets, the collector said.
He also appealed to local body representatives and officials to see that the community sanitation complex constructed at villages were put to use.
Under National Rural Employment Guarantee scheme, a sum of Rs. 47.35 crore had been allotted to take up 1,440 works.
The collector said that seventeen hours power supply was given to agriculture pumpsets. Selvi Sivagnanam, Chairperson of Thanjavur District Panchayat Council presided over the meeting.
Thenmozhi Jayabal, Chairperson of Thanjavur Municipality, S. P. Thamizhazhagan, Chairman of Kumbakonam Municipality, Priya, Chairperson of Pattukottai Municipality, P. Durairajan, Chairman of Thanjavur Panchayat Union, Rajaranthinam, Chairman of Sethubavachathiram panchayat union, Ranjanadevi Murugappan, Chairperson of Pattukottai Panchayat union participated in the meeting.
