Rs 109 cr proposal to develop BRTS road cleared

PUNE: The standing committee of the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) on Tuesday approved the Rs 107.91 crore proposal to develop the Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS) road from Nashik Phata to Wakad.

The total length of the road will be 7.9 km and will be 45 metres wide. The PCMC is in possession of 90 per cent of the land required to widen the road, said junior engineer Ashok Kute. The project will be completed in 18 months.

Standing committee chairman Dnyaneshwar Bhalerao said that the committee had also approved a proposal to give cash prizes to meritorious Std X and Std XII students of private schools. The top 25 students from both classes will be felicitated and receive a cash prize of Rs 10,000 each. Private schools within the municipal limits will be directed to give a list of their toppers in the Std X and XII examinations.

Deepak Gaikwad, an employee of the octroi department will also be felicitated in the civic general body meeting and given two increments for his bravery in foiling an armed robbery attempt at a octroi post in Talawade in June 2009.
