The creation of a natural grass turf is getting delayed for want of adequate water.

ERODE: Soccer lovers herewho were happy when they came to know about the improvements to be made on the football ground in the VOC grounds a few months ago, are now sore over the inordinate delay caused in creating a natural grass turf there.

The government has allotted Rs. 10 lakh for improving the facilities in the ground and create a natural grass turf.

The sports authorities started the work immediately after the announcement, which received appreciation from the sports lovers across the district.

“The officials have almost completed the improvements except the creation of natural grass in the court. No efforts have been made for the last two months for the purpose,” sports persons here say.

The authorities claimed that the ground lacked adequate supply of water, which was the main reason for the delay in the creation of the turf.

“We have asked the Erode Corporation to provide adequate water supply for the purpose. But they have refused to do so. We do not have ground water supply. So we have written to the District Collector to take steps in this regard,” officials say.

The municipal authorities said that they could not supply water for the creation of the turf as the demand for water in the town was huge.

“We could not even meet the demand for water in the town these days. If we supply water for the creation of the turf, then we will end up with a huge shortage,” the officials added.
