Municipal schools to be renovated soon
Classes in the SDMC schools would no longer be interrupted by
the repair and maintenance works. The South Delhi Municipal Corporation
will begin a massive renovation of its school buildings during this
summer vacations, so that the classes run smoothly.
Earlier, the renovation works were carried out throughout the year that
hampered the classes. But this time, the corporation has decided to
complete all maintenance and repair work during the summer vacation
itself. The summer vacation starts from May 10 and would continue till
June 30.
“All kind of construction work related to maintenance of buildings,
toilet blocks, other plumbering work and maintenance of fans and other
electrical fittings will be completed before the schools reopen after
the summer vacation. Tender for the work has already been done,” said a
senior corporation official. The corporation will be spending Rs 3.6 crore on the renovation work.
“All works including whitewash, maintenance of broken doors and
windows, electrification, maintenance of fans, maintenance of water
supply network will be completed during the vacations,” said SDMC
spokesperson Mukesh Yadav.
Apart from maintenance of the existing school infrastructure, the
corporation is also constructing new classrooms and toilet blocks. The
officials said while 422 classrooms have been constructed over the last
one year, construction of 993 classrooms are in process. Similarly, the
south civic body completed has completed construction of 97 new toilets,
while work of 190 more toilets is on.
