Officials seek Government ratification for appointment of consultants

The Vijayawada Guntur Tenali Mangalagiri Urban Development Authority (VGTMUDA) will prepare master plan for extended region in next 24 months. The UDA authorities have written a letter to the State government for ratification of appointment of consultants to prepare the master plan document.

Urban Development Authority Vice-Chairman M. Rama Rao, on Wednesday, said that the Aarvee consultants would prepare the document. Satellite images would be used in preparation of the master plan.

The Government expanded the UDA limits upto Ponnur, Sattenapalli, Amaravati in Guntur district and Nuzvid, Nandigama, Gudivada and Pamarru in Krishna district. When the UDA was formed in 1978, its jurisdiction was only 1954 sq km. The jurisdiction of the UDA has increased to 7,060 square km spread over two districts.As many as 494 villages in Krishna district and 326 villages in Guntur district fall under UDA limits. Nandigama and Vuyyur Nagara Panchayats, Gudivada and Nuzvid municipality of Krishna district and Sattenapalli and Ponnur municipalities of Guntur district were brought under the UDA limits.

It may be recalled that the State Government had issued a GO more than a year ago expanding the horizons of the UDA.

It is, however, unable to draw the master plan in the extended jurisdiction for various reasons, foremost issue being the approval of appointment of a consultant to prepare the master plan. A consultant has been identified, but the Board has to formally approve it for him to commence the work.

It was suggestions galore at the conference of Corporation councillors held here on Monday to discuss the draft master plan for 2031. In Chenkottukonam area, where major developments are proposed, Kattaikonam councillor G Vinod suggested alternative measures to avoid eviction.

 “Ample space is available on the Kerala University’s Kariavattom campus and Central Tuber Crops Research Institute (CTCRI) premises. On the campus, excluding the area allocated for the international stadium, there is enough space. For the proposed High Court complex, the KINFRA park can be suggested. Then, the need for eviction will not come up,” said Vinod.  He also said that there was no proposal for the development of Sreekariyam, and in finding a new source for potable water in the newly-formed wards.

 BJP leader in the council P Asok Kumar stressed the need for implementing an urban development plan instead of going in for a master plan. “When in the state capitals in the country, metro plans and urban development plans have been implemented, we are still lagging behind with the master plan. The draft master plan is devised based on satellite pictures and a socio-economic survey has not been undertaken,” said Asok Kumar.

Malayalam version

The work order for preparing the Malayalam version of the draft master plan is to be entrusted with a retired planning officer, according to the Town Planning Department. “A committee will be formed for bringing out the Malayalam version of the plan. In two-months’ time, this will be done,” said S Ajaya Kumar, Regional Town Planner.

Master plan for Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor first zone notified

JAIPUR: The urban development & housing department has notified the Master Plan for Shahjahanpur-Neemrana-Behror region under the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC), paving way for development of the area by various agencies.

"The Master Plan has been prepared for 555 sq km factoring in future development as the freight corridor will fuel growth of multiple sectors. The plan which was notified last week, covers a wider spectrum of economic activities compared to the plan prepared by DMIC consultant," said a senior UDH official.

As part of the DMIC project, consultant Kuiper Compagnons BV had finalized its master plan for the Khushkhera-Bhiwadi-Neemrana investment region spread over 165 sq km and submitted to the state government last year. Since the government wanted to extend the area for development in view of the future demand, the UDH prepared a new plan taking into account the requirements of various departments like RIICO and housing.

Khushkhera-Bhiwadi-Neemrana is being developed as the first node for which land acquisition is almost complete.

The $100 billion DMIC project envisages developments within 150 km on both sides of the 1,483 km long freight corridor, 39% of which will pass through Rajasthan. The state will develop industrial clusters and multiple projects on both sides of corridor.

The corridor has been planned to create a strong economic base with internationally competitive environment and advanced infrastructure to boost domestic commerce, attract foreign investments and attain sustainable development. It is designed to reduce travel time between Delhi to Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust in Mumbai significantly facilitating faster turnaround and enhanced exports.

Early bird projects that would come up in the node include aerotropolis at Kot Kasim in Alwar, knowledge city and a road link of 70 km between Neemrana and Bhiwadi.
