Widening of Major Junctions Mooted

Providing a huge relief to the commuters, the authorities  concerned have decided to widen the Irumpanam-Puthiya Road and Karingachira, the two major junctions in the area. According to sources, the decision to widen the Irumpanam-Puthiya Road junction was taken ar a recent meeting held under the chairmanship of Food and Civil Supplies Minister Anoop Jacob.

The authorities of Tripunithura Municipality, Kerala Water Authority (KWA), Roads and Bridges Development Corporation (RBDC), Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) and Kochi Refinery participated in the meeting.

At the meeting, Kochi Refinery has agreed to provide the funds for the Irumpanam-Puthiya Road junction widening.

Tripunithura Municipality Health Standing Committee chairman T K Suresh said  RBDC will carry out the widening of the Puthiya Road junction. “As per plans, the widening will be carried upto 200 metres of the approach roads. Then, free-left system will be introduced. A high mast light will be  installed at the junction using the MP fund of Jose K Mani,” T K Suresh said.

He added that Karigachira Junction will be widened using the MLA fund of Anoop Jacob. A detailed plan for the proposal is being prepared by the National Highway Authority of India Muvattupuzha section.

Suresh added that the widening proposals were a long-pending demand of the residents. “Sometimes, the traffic congestion from Puthiya Road junction will extend upto Pettah junction and which will in turn creates traffic jams along the pocket roads of Tripunithura. The widening will decongest the area and  ensure smooth flow of the vehicles of the Refinery,” he said

He said that signal lights for the junctions are also under consideration and final decision in this regard will be taken soon.
