HYDERABAD: Action will be initiated against all those unauthorised contractors who are resorting to collection of fee in parking lots in Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation limits that were allotted to women members of self-help groups (SHGs) , said Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development Anam Ram Narayan Reddy.

Responding to a question in the Legislative Council on Monday, he said that of 197 parking lots in twin cities, 76 were allotted to self-help groups women members and 50 to men workers.

Revision of rates

The rates for the remaining 71 parking lots would be revised as there were no takers for them. Either tenders would be called or they also would be allotted to SHG members, he said.

Maintenance

The Minister also said in the earlier system, GHMC used to pay Rs.2 crore to contractors for maintenance of the parking lots.

In the present system, Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation without any expenditure was earning Rs.42 lakh a year from 76 parking lots.

HYDERABAD: In a significant development, Congress ally MIM has decided to contest on its own in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) elections. The MIM is likely to field its candidates in all the 150 division of the GHMC.

Speaking to reporters after the MIM members were suspended from the House for the day today, MIM floor leader Akbaruddin Owaisi said that his party had kept its options open and was even inclined to forge an alliance with PRP and LSP. “We have contested alone in the previous elections,’’ Akbar said.

MIM has always been the single largest party in Hyderabad and it has been a decisive force in the city, he said.

He alleged that both the Congress and the TDP ruined Hyderabad. He hinted a possible post-poll tie up with others. He recalled that MIM got support both from Congress and the TDP in the past in the MCH. Asked whether the MIM would take the support of TDP after the elections, Akbar said that all the options were open.

He alleged that though the State Government earned around Rs 13,000 crore through the sale of lands in the Hyderabad, it spent nothing for the development of the city.

Akbaruddin alleged that the Speaker did not allow him to speak in the Assembly today when he wanted to know the number of houses allotted to Muslims. He found fault with the way Speaker N Kiran Kumar Reddy was running the House.

Akbar alleged that though the Minority Welfare Department was sanctioning funds, the amount being spent in the State was meagre. He alleged that houses under Indiramma were not being allotted to Muslims as per their population.

On the development of Hyderabad, the MIM leader said that though the State was collecting around Rs 10,000 crore through taxes from Hyderabad alone, the money was not being spent for the development of the city. ``Where has all the money gone?’’ he questioned.

However, TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu refused to comment on Akbar’s statement that their options were open as far as GHMC elections are concerned.

Soon you may be able to pay house tax online

The Lucknow Municipal Corporation is planning to tie- up with a Mumbai-based financial institution, Bill Desk, for collection of house tax online.

“We have considered this organisation as it has a tie-up with around 30 leading banks, making it convenient for the users of different banks to pay their house tax through online-banking,” said AC Sinha, Additional Municipal Commissioner of the Corporation.

“We have received the approval in-principle from NIC for the same and are waiting for the formalities to be completed. A meeting will be held with the financial institution by this week,” he said.

As part of the services, a link of the institution will be provided on the site, which will connect the user to all the leading banks on their network. “We have tied up with HDFC and formalities with State Bank of India will also be completed by the end of this week,” said Sinha.

Once the user is logged in with the help of his unique ID-code, details including his outstanding amount, name, address and property details will be accessible. “The site will link all the zones and the resident of any particular zone can make the payment for house tax online,” said Sinha.

PUNE: The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has decided to increase in the fine charged for regularising unauthorised water connections during its drive to increase water tax revenue and recover the cost of supplying water to residents.

The water supply department has started a drive to regularise these water connections. It has appealed to residents to contact the zonal offices concerned immediately to regularise their water connections before August 30 by paying Rs 1,500 as fine.

A statement issued by the PCMC said that the fine will be doubled to Rs 3,000 in order to regularise half-inch residential water connections from September 1 onwards. The fine for regularising residential and commercial connections of other sizes will also be doubled. The PCMC will charge four times the fine for regularising water connections from October 1 onwards. The time frame for availing of this opportunity will be announced later, the statement said.

The period for regularising the water connections by paying four times the fine will be less. The PCMC will take strict action against those with unauthorised water connections after the expiry of the period, which is to be fixed later, the statement said.

It may be noted that the water supply department conducted a survey of all the water connections in the municipal limits on July 26 and 27 to identify unauthorised water connections. The survey revealed that around 2,500 residential and 400 commercial connections were unauthorised.

KANPUR: House owners of the city may pay the property tax (Saral Kar) in three instalments iinstead of one-time payment, according to Rajeev Sharma, city commissioner, Kanpur Nagar Nigam (KNN).

Addressing mediapersons, the city commissioner said that so far house owners have to pay the house tax in one time, but now they can pay in instalments. Under the new scheme, house owners have to pay forty per cent of the house tax in the first installment and the rest amount would be payable in two instalments.

Talking about the problems of the city, especially sanitation, city commissioner, KNN, mentioned that within two months, all those areas which were dug up by Jal Sansthan for laying down the deep sewer line would be levelled very soon. For this fly ash from Panki thermal power station would be used to level the road.

Moreover, encroachment drive would restart again. Legal proceedings would be initiated against those who would create hurdles in the anti-encroachment drive. Action would also be taken against those who would park their vehicles on open land instead of parking them at authorised Nagar Nigam stand, he added
