Housing scheme falls flat in Nellore district

Staff Reporter

NELLORE: Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister Anam Ramnarayana Reddy expressed concern over the poor implementation of Indiramma Housing Scheme in the district.

Participating in a meeting with the Housing Corporation officials here on Wednesday, the Minister expressed dissatisfaction over the delay in completing the construction of houses sanctioned during phase-I and phase-II some three years ago in the district. The officials explained that many beneficiaries are not coming forward to construct the houses due to delay in sanctioning bridge loans by the bankers. Some houses were pending as there were no sufficient work inspectors in the district.

However, the housing officials said about 50,000 houses would be completed soon as the government is providing Rs. 20,000 financial assistance to SC and STs through municipalities. The Minister said the government has sanctioned 1,05,760 houses in three phases, but not even half of the units were grounded.

Mr. Reddy directed the DEs to complete the houses sanctioned in first phase by August 15. He expressed anger over the poor performance of some engineers in implementing the scheme. Collector K. Ramgopal and other officials were present.
