Four teams will participate
MYSORE: Can cricket help bring better coordination among the “key players” for realising goals such as completing projects under the JNNURM? Well, it seems so.
With officers’ in-charge of executing and monitoring JNNURM projects coming under flak for the slow progress or complaints of lack of coordination among the agencies involved in the mission under which projects worth Rs. 614 crore had been approved for the city, this initiative has been mooted as a booster to the JNNURM projects.
It is largely viewed that JNNURM is a golden opportunity for the city to get maximum benefit from the Centre’s gesture to upgrade its infrastructure for the next 50 years.
Keeping the opinions in mind, Deputy Commissioner and JNNURM Special Officer P. Manivannan has come up with the idea of holding a cricket tourney, perhaps on T-20 model, to improve coordination among the government officers and elected representatives, which thereby help in realising JNNURM projects in time.
The media and the NGOs are also part of this exercise since they are playing the role of “watchdogs”.
Mr. Manivannan told The Hindu that said most JNNURM projects were on track, but some still needed to be pushed further.
“We have found dearth in coordination between the officers of some agencies and greater progress can be achieved if this deficiency is addressed. Cricket, we thought, is the right step to achieve the expected results. It is an attempt to refresh their minds and expect faster results,” he said.
The matches will be held at University Oval Grounds on July 5 among four teams which are called JNNURM Team One, Two, Three and Four.
Team One will have Mayor as the Captain and corporators as the players; Team Two comprising officers of the MCC will be led by the MCC commissioner; Team Three is represented by the media and the Team Four consists of the representatives of non-governmental organisations.
