PCMC standing committee clears projects in a hurry

PUNE: The standing committee of the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) on Tuesday discussed proposals worth Rs 100 crore since the election code of conduct for the assembly elections may come into force anytime this month.

The committee approved developmental projects with a total expenditure of Rs 54.61 crore that were on the agenda of the meeting. The committee also discussed short notice proposals with a total expenditure of Rs 45 crore that were tabled during the meeting.

The standing committee meeting held on Tuesday was mostly thought as the last meeting where new developmental projects would be approved before the election code of conduct comes into force.

Speaking to TOI, standing committee chairman Dnyaneshwar Bhalerao said, "Around 50 short notice proposals were tabled by the administration. These were related to various projects under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) to be undertaken in various parts of the municipal limits. The discussion on these proposals will be held on Thursday."

The committee approved resolutions for laying of water pipelines and construction of water tanks at a total expenditure of Rs 20.36 crore. The resolution for laying drainage lines in Talawade-Chikli at an expenditure of Rs 3.09 crore was also approved. Resolution to construct roads in zone A limits at an expenditure of Rs 3.12 crore was sanctioned along with another resolution to construct roads in zone C limits at an expenditure of Rs 4.20 crore.

Resolutions for laying drainage lines in Moshi, Dudulgaon, Charholi, Chowiswadi and Wadmukhwadi at a total expenditure of Rs 17.52 crore and the proposal for construction of a wrestling arena at Charholi at an expenditure of Rs 63.90 lakh were also approved.
