63 road projects in city approved

Kodical Road, Kadri Temple Road, Valencia Circle-Gorigudda Road and Morgan’s Gate Junction-Mahakalipadpu Road are some of the main roads that will be developed with the Chief Minister’s third stage Rs. 100-crore special grant to Mangalore City Corporation.

They were among the 63 road projects for which the council of the civic body gave administrative approval recently.

The 63 projects have been grouped under 19 packages. Each package has projects estimated at Rs. 1 crore. Hence, the council has given administrative approval for road projects worth Rs. 19 crore. Some of the other road projects approved include Ashok Nagar-Urwa Stores Road; Silver Gate Main Road at Kulashekara; Maroli Suryanarayana Temple to Angelore Church; Lower Car Street to Ansari Road; Badriya College Junction to Neereshwalya School Junction; Padil-Shivanagar Road; Vani Nagar to Bajal Padpu School Road; Jeppu Kudpady to Janardhana Bhajana Mandir Road; Faisal Nagar to Bajal; Mary Matha Church Road to Kana Road.

Chairman of the Standing Committee for Town Planning and Improvement D.K. Ashok Kumar said that the Kadri Temple Road would be concreted.

M. Shashidhar Hegde, former Mayor and councillor from Derebail North ward, said that the Kodical Road connecting the National Highway 66 from Urwa Stores via Kodical would be concreted.

In addition to Rs. 1 crore reserved from the third stage special grant, another Rs. 1 crore has been reserved for the same road under the second stage Rs. 100-crore grant, he said. According to B.T. Kantaraj, Deputy Commissioner (Development) and Superintending Engineer of the civic body, the corporation has sent different projects each estimated at over Rs. 1 crore to the government for approval under 21 packages. Project estimated up to Rs. 1 crore each could be approved at the corporation level here.

The government approved the action plan for a total of 168 projects to be taken up from the third stage Rs. 100-crore grant on March 1, 2014.
