Sikkim Municipalities (Amendment) Bill

Gangtok, July 28

The Sikkim Municipalities (Amendment) Bill was passed here on Tuesday in the second day of the Budget session of the Sikkim Legislative Assembly. The Bill was introduced on Monday by the State Urban Development Minister, Mr D.B. Thapa.

The Bill had been framed in view of the State Government's decision to provide individual reservations to tribal communities of Bhutias, Lepchas, Limboos and Tamangs in the urban local bodies of Sikkim.

It may be recalled that the State Cabinet on June 10 had approved 22 per cent reservation to the Bhutia-Lepcha communities in both Panchayat and urban bodies. The Cabinet had also approved 14 per cent reservation to tribal communities of Limboos and Tamangs in both Panchayat and urban bodies.

The Sikkim Appropriation Bill, which was introduced on Tuesday by the Sikkim Chief Minister, Mr Pawan Chamling was passed by the House. Mr Chamling also introduced Sikkim Online Gaming (Regulation) Amendment Bill in the House today. - Sarikah Atreya
