BANGALORE: On account of Gowri-Ganesha festival on August 23, the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) will be plying additional buses to cater to the rush of passengers. KSRTC is plying an additional 705 buses from Kempegowda Bus Station (KBS) in Majestic and 160 buses from Satellite Bus Station (SBS) on Mysore Road. The additonal services would be operational on August 21 and 22. Speaking to Express, the KSRTC divisional controller MP Prabhu Das said that as there would be heavy rush on August 21 and 22, the department has geared itself up and arranged for an additional 865 buses on two days to ferry the passengers.

“The additional buses include services like Volvo, Rajahamsa and Express. Also, this includes 110 buses of the North-West Karnataka Road Transport Corporation and North-East Karnataka Road Transport Corporation buses,’’ he said.

Departure for buses in regular routes to various destinations would be from KBS, while departure for additional buses (reserved and unreserved) for the festival would be from SBS, Mysore Road.

However, departure for Volvo service will be from KBS. “Boarding at SBS will be mentioned on the reservation ticket. The arrival of all the buses will be at KBS,’’ Das added. He also said that this bifurcation is being done to avoid a jam inside the KBS in the fest.

In the second phase of the JNNURM programme for Mysore, KSRTC on Thursday introduced 22 specially designed buses for the city. Transport Secretary MK Shankarlingegowda and KSRTC MD Gaurav Gupta flagged off the new buses at Bangalore Central Division Depot.
