More civic seats for women in Vadakara

Kozhikode: Women councillors will have a dominant presence in the Vadakara municipality in Kozhikode district, it became clear after lots were drawn to determine the reserved seats in local body elections.

Of the 47 wards, 24 are for women, one for the Scheduled Castes and the rest for general candidates.

The existing 44-member Vadakara municipal council has 17 women, 15 of them got elected from seats reserved for women and two from general seats.

In Koyilandy

The neighbouring Koyilandy municipality will have 20 women councillors. In the 44-member municipal council, wards 13 and 25 have been reserved for Scheduled Castes women and ward six for the Scheduled Castes (SC).

In Kalpetta

After the draw of lots held here on Monday, it was announced that in the 28-ward Kalpetta municipality, wards 12 and 16 have been reserved for Scheduled Tribes women and ward 25 for the Scheduled Tribes; ward 22 for Scheduled Castes women and ward 5 for the Scheduled Castes. As many as 11 wards of the Kalpetta municipality will be general seats.
