PCMC honours women employees

Pune: Several social organisations, political parties and the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation took the lead in honouring outstanding women on International Women’s Day. Blood donation, medical check-up camps, rallies, prize distribution functions marked the occasion across the twin industrial town.

The PCMC felicitated around 65 women employees who completed 25 years of service with the civic body. Among them were clerks, typists, conservancy staff, officers, nurses and doctors. Jayashri Kotwal, physiotherapist with civic-run Yeshwantrao Chavan Memorial Hospital, was felicitated for her contribution to physiotheraphy. “Physiotherapy plays a vital role in getting an accident victim or a person suffering from back problems into shape,” Kotwal said. The others felicitated were Rohini Vijay Godse, sister in-charge, YCM hospital, Alka Dnyanba Kusum, principal, Landewadi school, Nalini Krushnadas Undale, Snehal Mohan Kulkarni, Mangala Andrews Banekar, Premlata Tilabhai Patel, all assistant teachers .

On behalf of the Congress, a cleanliness drive was carried out near Ahilyadevi statue at Morwadi. Women, led by Congress secretary Shyamla Sonawane garlanded the statue of Ahilyadevi. They sent congratulatory messages to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi for pushing the women’s reservation bill. The Shramik Mahila Pratishtan carried out a blood donation camp in Shridharnagar. In Morya Colony, Mayor Yogesh Behl felicitated Sonali Kulkarni, Harshada Kakade, Ushakiran Chavan, Anuradha Gorkhe, Neeta Chordiya, Shailaja Salve, Puja Vaychal, Sheetal Pawar and Leena Mane.

The Kanya Shala of PCMC in Chinchwad felicitated women journalists.
