Allowances up for local body representatives

PUDUCHERRY: The government has revised the monthly vehicle allowance or travelling allowance for chairpersons and vice-chairpersons and councillors of municipalities, commune panchayats and village panchayats in Puducherry.

A communication from the office of the Public Health Minister, who also holds charge of the Local Administration Department, said the Government Order was issued on July 17. The elected representatives were demanding an increase for long.

In municipalities, the vehicle allowance for chairpersons is up from Rs. 5,000 to Rs. 6,000.

For vice-chairpersons it is up from Rs. 3,000 to Rs. 4,000.

The travelling allowance of Rs. 2,000 has been increased to Rs. 3,000 for council members.

For chairpersons of commune panchayats, the vehicle allowance of Rs. 3,000 has been increased to Rs. 5,000.

The allowance for vice-chairpersons has been increased from Rs. 2,000 to Rs. 4,000. Councillors’ travel allowance is up from Rs. 1,000 to Rs. 3,000.

The vehicle allowance for chairpersons of village panchayats has been increased from Rs. 1,000 to Rs. 3,000, and for vice-chairpersons from Rs. 750 to Rs. 2,000. Travel allowance for council members has been increased from Rs. 500 to Rs. 1,000.
