Over 9,000 applications for housing scheme

TIRUNELVELI: Dharmendra Pratap Yadhav, Managing Director, Tamil Nadu Housing Board, on Thursday discussed the execution of housing scheme with lead district managers of four districts and bankers.

The Union Government extends loan up to Rs. 1.60 lakh to those who are living under corporation, municipal and town panchayat limits with an annual income of Rs. 36,000 and above for constructing house with 300 square feet.

For the loan of Rs. one lakh, the Centre gives the interest subsidy of five per cent and the usual rate of interest will be applicable to rest of the loan.

As the Centre has designated the Tamil Nadu Housing Board as the coordinator of this housing scheme, Mr. Yadhav had a consultative meeting with lead district managers of Tuticorin, Tirunelveli, Kanyakumari and Ramanathapuram and bankers.

It was informed that 2,781 applications in Tirunelveli district, 5,274 in Kanyakumari district 203 in Ramanathapuram district and 974 in Tuticorin district have been received and loan will be released after scrutiny.

Project Officer, District Rural Development Agency, Tirunelveli, R. Shankar, Executive Engineers, TNHB, Natesan and Manoharan, lead district manager, Tirunelveli, John Felix, and Public Relations Officer, Tirunelveli, U. Ravindran, were among those who participated.
