Wastes set on fire

Waste containing inflammable packing material was set afire on Monday evening at the Coimbatore Corporation’s dump yard in Vellalore.

According to the residents of localities in Vellalore, representatives of a few companies that do business in packing dumped the waste, set fire to the same and fled the spot.

Only after smoke engulfed the locality, did the residents know about the incident.

And when they rushed there, they found the waste burning.

This had become a habit for the companies as they chose the Kanjikonampalayam route, which was not guarded. Coimbatore Corporation Commissioner G. Latha said that the civic body planned to construct a wall to fence the 600-odd acre in Vellalore and post security to prevent recurrence of such incidents.
