Mayor calls meet to prepare for forthcoming monsoon

COIMBATORE: Though it was a public holiday the city mayor P Rajkumar called for an emergency meeting at the corporation with the engineering officials in view of the incoming monsoons that will set in this month. "I met officials from the engineering department to check on our preparedness for the monsoon," said P Rajkumar. Several road works and under ground drainage projects remain pending in different parts of the city. There have been complaints from commuters about water logging and slippery roads in many areas over the last few days," he said, adding, "I have told them to check on the pending work and complete them soon." He also has asked them to check on the conditions of the pumps placed in various parts. Last week, he had inspected the Ramnagar under bridge during the rains.

"There are areas in the city where the drainage and sewage mixes with drinking water. So the officials have been asked to check for leaks in these pipes and rectify them soon to avoid the spread of diseases," said S Ganesh, corporation commissioner. All government schools will be inspected to avoid mishaps and drains will be cleaned to avoid clogging. "We will make sure that all the pending roads will be completed soon so that public do not face problems during monsoons," said S Ganesh. Natural drains in the city will also be cleaned in the next few days, he said. With Siruvani Dam full and the Pilloor water scheme ready, there will not be any shortage of drinking water.
