Underground drainage project to be completed by September

NAMAKKAL: The implementation of the underground drainage project in Namakkal town will be completed by September this year, Collector U. Sagayam has said.

Inspecting the progress of work here on Wednesday, the Collector said the government had allotted a sum of Rs. 18.84 crore for the project.

It was planned to lay sewer pipelines to a length of 63.8 km in the town.

The Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage (TWAD) Board, the implementing agency for the project, had completed laying pipelines to a length of 59.7 km so far.

He asked the officials to speed up the work and ensure quality during the implementation of the project.

TWAD Board Executive Engineer Gopal, Namakkal Municipality Commissioner Varadarajan and senior officials accompanied the Collector during the inspection that was carried out.

Earlier, he participated in the Education Development Day and Kamarajar birth anniversary celebrations held in Government Boys Higher Secondary School (Namakkal South) here.

Addressing the students, Mr. Sagayam encouraged them to read the life history of former Chief Minister Kamarajar.

Asking the students to follow in the footsteps of Kamarajar, he said the State government was keen on providing access to education to people in all sections of the society.

He also asked the teachers to put in wholehearted efforts for the overall development of students in the district.
