13 Hope Centres of civic body opened

Thirteen Hope Centres set up by Tiruchirapalli City Corporation to facilitate involvement of community groups in various civic services were inaugurated by Corporation Commissioner V.P.Thandapani on Tuesday.

Maintenance of sanitary complexes and public toilets of the corporation would be one of the major tasks to be vested with the community groups.

The civic body has taken steps to maintain 385 public toilets in the 65 wards through 400 community groups comprising users in the respective areas.

The groups would play a key role in achieving the government objective of making the city open-defecation free by 2015. This apart, the groups would be involved in maintenance of other public properties of the civic body, collection of garbage from apartments, raising tree saplings, and serving notices of the civic body to residents, Mr. Thandapani said. The civic body has established one Hope Centre for every six wards, he said.
