Stalin opens new bus stand

CHENNAI: Deputy Chief Minister M K Stalin on Tuesday inaugurated the new bus stand at Poonamallee constructed at a cost of Rs 8.30 crore and distributed welfare assistance to the tune of Rs.76 lakh to 681 beneficiaries.

Speaking at the inaugural function, Stalin said the new bus stand would ease the traffic congestion in the area to a great extent. As many as 32 buses could be parked in the bus stand and other necessary facilities have been provided.

He said the second phase of extension works in the bus stand would be carried out at a cost of Rs 1.25 crore and the officials had assured to complete the works within 12 months. “If the works are completed before the specified time, I will award the officials with prizes,” he announced.

During the past three years, new bus stands were constructed in 10 municipalities at a cost of Rs 21.51 crore. New bus stand at Palani constructed at a cost of Rs 13 crore would be opened on February 15 and works on new bus stands were going on in six municipalities at a cost of Rs 24.64 crore.

Congress Legislature Party leader D Sudarssanam, Fisheries Minister K P P Sami, MLAs and senior officials also took part in the function.
