Better facilities: Deputy Chief Minister M.K. Stalin inaugurating the new bus stand in Kodaikanal on Monday.

DINDIGUL: Many new bus stands will be opened to provide better facilities to common man in rural areas. Hosur, Maraimalai Nagar, Tambaram, Tindivanam, Anagaputhur and Vandhavasi will get new bus stands shortly, said M.K. Stalin, Deputy Chief Minster of Tamil Nadu.

He was addressing the inaugural function of Kodaikanal Bus Stand constructed at a cost of Rs.4.87 crore here on Monday. New bus stands were being constructed at various places at an estimated cost of Rs.24.67 crore.

Massive efforts were on to construct an ultra modern bus stand for this tourists’ attraction.

It had purchased lands from Transport Department by selling its own land for construction of new building for court. The Kodaikanal Municipality would earn a revenue of Rs.37.32 lakh through new shops constructed within the bus stand campus.

Hitting hard on CPI(M) party and Dindigul MLA K. Balabarathi, who observed a fast in Dindigul in the morning condemning the delay in completion of the underground drainage project, Mr. Stalin said that the government had been systematically executing all the development works suggested by the CPI(M) and the MLA. “They knew very well that the underground drainage project in Dindigul will be completed by March 31. Still, they wanted to create an image among people that their fast and agitation only brought this project to Dindigul town. Even though Palani Municipal Chairman T. Rajamanickam represented CPI (M), he praised the good works done by the State government,” he said.

Earlier, Mr. Stalin unveiled the statue of Mother Teresa on the campus of Mother Teresa Women’s University in the hill station to mark its silver jubilee celebrations.

On the whole, the Deputy Chief Minister had laid foundation stone, inaugurated new buildings for various projects and disbursed welfare aid totalling to a total cost of Rs.202 crore.

The Palani central bus stand was constructed at cost of Rs.3.6 crore.
