Drinking water supply is ensured for residents of wards 1, 2, 3 and 5 through tankers.

Sterlite Copper has supported Tuticorin Corporation by providing trucks to supply water to these wards for four months.

P. Xavier, Mayor (in-charge), inaugurated the supply by flagging off the trucks in the presence of S. Madhumathi, Commissioner of Corporation and Pankaj Kumar, Head, Operations, Sterlite Copper at a programme near Rajaji Park here on Monday.

Each truck would supply 1,25,000 litres of drinking water per day to benefit around 1,60,000 people, sources said.

The Sterlite company had allotted Rs.15 lakh for the project.
