1,000 screened at beach

Chennai, Sept. 23: Chennai corporation on Wednesday conducted a mega medical camp at the Marina Beach for the public with the incidence of diabetes. About 1,000 people were screened during the camp and those with high blood sugar levels were directed to meet the physicians and diabetologists.
Speaking on the occasion mayor M. Subramanian said that the health department of city corporation had pressed 50 medical officers and 100 paramedical staff into service for the camp. The objective of the camp was to spread awareness on diabetes mellitus among the beach goers. The camp has received a good response from the public and if required more such camps would be held to benefit the public, the mayor added.
Diabetes symptoms like frequent urination, enhanced appetite, loss of weight and giddiness were enquired during the camp and the results of the blood sugar were analysed and prescriptions were also given for the diabetic patients.
