As many as 10 corporators of the Congress and two corporators of the
TDP and the BJP filed their nominations to the elections to the standing
committee of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) on
Monday.
Monday was the last day for filing of nomination papers. The polls will be held on June 6.
The
Congress corporators who filed their nominations are Jagan K
(Jagadharigutta), M Prabhakar Reddy (Bagh Lingampally), B Pushpa
(Ramchandrapuram), M R Srinivasa Rao (Mettuguda), M Parameshwar Reddy
(Ramanthapur), Bharathi Raj B (Moula Ali) Geetah Rani T (Alwal), B Raju
Yadav (Punjagutta), J Devanand (Bansilalpet) and Shankar Yadav (Begum
Bazar).
TDP corporator M Bhanu Prasad from Hydernagar and BJP
candidate K Sahadev Yadav from Kurmaguda also filed their papers on
Monday. On Friday last, seven MIM corporators filed their nominations.
As
many as 15 members would be elected from the 150 corporators. Mayor is
the chairperson of the standing committee. In the present standing
committee, Congress party has eight members while the MIM has seven
members. The committee’s tenure is for one year.
GHMC secretary
MSS Somaraju said that scrutiny of nominations will take place on May 29
and the list of valid nominations will be published on the same
evening. Candidates can withdraw their names before 3 p.m. on June 1.
The list of contesting candidates will be published on the same evening.
If
there are more than 15 candidates in the fray, corporators have to
indicate their priority for the candidates in the fray. If the
corporators vote for more than 15, their vote would be rejected.
