142 councillors sworn-in

KOCHI: One hundred and forty-two newly-elected councillors of eight local bodies in the district were sworn-in on Tuesday. With this, new governing committees have been formed in all the local bodies in the district.
Forty-three councillors of Thrikkakara municipality, 13 members each of Edappally and Parakkadavu block panchayats, and 18 members of Parakkadavu, 15 members of Kunnukara, 14 members of Edakkatuvayal and 13 members each of Marady and Mudakuzha grama panchayats were sworn-in at ceremonies held at the respective local bodies.
Chairmen of all these local bodies except Thrikkakara municipality will be elected on December 4. Election of chairman in Thrikkakara will be held on December 6.
The Election Commission had agreed to the postponement of election in view of the request made by Congress Mandalam president M.O. Varghese citing that the hearing for revision of voters list in the municipality had been scheduled for December 4.
The swearing-in ceremony of the councillors of the municipality was held in a specially erected pandal in front of the municipal office. Returning officer K.V. Sabu, Deputy Collector (Land Acquisition) administered the oath of office to the senior-most member T.S. Radhamani, who was elected from the NGO Quarters ward. The rest of the councillors took the oath from her.
Ms. Radhamani also presided over the maiden council meeting of the municipality soon after the swearing-in. The meeting was adjourned after declaring the date of election of chairman.
In Edappally block panchayat Returning officer K.A. Abdul Rasheed, DEO, administered the oath of office to M.R. Antony and in Parakkadavu block panchayat returning officer and Cooperative Society Joint Registrar T. Mayadevi administered the oath to senior member P.O. Joseph.
In Kunnukara grama panchayat, senior member V.A. Chandran took the oath from returning officer and PWD Irrigation Executive Engineer Ajith Kumar. In Marady grama panchayat returning officer and Muvattupuzha AEO Pathumakunju administered the oath to Vilasini Prabhakaran. In Parakkadavu and Edakkatuvayal grama panchayats returning officers Priyesh Kumar, Aluva town employment officer, and P. Ravikumar, taluk supply officer, administered the oath of office to senior members C.M. Joy and P.P. Jacob respectively.
