1,650 units of blood collected in city

Ahmedabad: As Many as 1,650 bottles of blood were collected at a camp organised jointly by the Ahmedabad Medical Association (AMA) and the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) on Sunday.AMA organised the camp to mark the World Blood Donor Day and AMC joined the initiative to mark the 600 th anniversary of the city.
Health Department officials said thousands of people donated blood on the occasion. For the first time, hundreds of doctors also donated blood.
In charge Medical Officer Dr Bhavin Solanki said: “The main objective of the initiative was to create awareness about necessity of donating blood, and dispel fear and misconception attached with it and also collect maximum number of blood units on a single day at a single site. The blood collected will be dispatched to the rural areas.”
