20% of 1,367 cleared projects unnecessary?

Bangalore: BBMP
Commissioner M. Lakshminarayan on Monday cautioned palike engineers
not to take up unnecessary projects that would burden the BBMP.
He
issued work orders for 1,367 ward-level projects, approved through
single-window system on Monday. “The BBMP is in a financial crisis.
Corporators must refrain from pushing unwanted projects and must
become role models.”
But BBMP sources said at least 20% of the
projects are redundant. “Works like replacing cobblestones on footpaths,
asphalting of good roads and developing hi-tech playgrounds are
unnecessary,” they said.
Mayor Katte Satyanarayan said an IT-BT summit would be held soon to invite investors to adopt BBMP properties.
9 telecoms to give details of OFCs
Nine
telecom firms on Monday agreed to provide details of their optical
fibre cable network in the city. Yediyur corporator N.R. Ramesh said
letters from the firms have been accepted and the process would earn
revenue for the BBMP.
‘Stop blame game on man’s death’
Following
the death of a motorist who fell into a ditch at Bahadur Hayavadan Rao
Road on Sunday, Satyanarayana directed BBMP and BWSSB engineers not to
blame each other. He directed BWSSB engineers to inform BBMP engineers
on the works and provide safety measures.
