24×7 water supply in city soon to be a reality
At present 155 litre per person is the consumption of the city, but 25%
to 30 % of the water gets wasted due to improper connections and
pipelines. This project will help the city people in both the ways of
water supply and wastewater management.
To meet the water
shortage, the MC will treat water of three canals, which are presently
closed due to construction work on Sidhwan canal. It has completed the
feasibility study of the area in Doraha for the purpose. Tri canals join
each other at Manpur district.
“Effective treatment and proper
disposal of the waste water will be the main aim of the project,” said
Kamlesh Bansal, Zonal Commissioner, Zone A.
The MC has approved
the detailed project report from its side and is now sending proposals
to the interested companies for bidding.
“The central government will provide 50% of total funds; MC will provide 30% and 20% funds will be given the state government.
This project can solve 50% of the problems of water in the city,” said
Rakesh Verma, municipal commissioner. The amount sanctioned under JNNURM is Rs 1,500 crore.
