With the five-year tenure of the 25 urban local bodies in nine
Western Odisha districts coming to an end, the State Government on
Wednesday appointed administrators for the municipal entities for
carrying out the day-to-day functions.
Polls to these ULBs have
been stalled over the agitation for establishment of permanent bench of
the Orissa High Court bench in Western Odisha.
The Government
exercised the powers vested with it under Section 425 of Odisha
Municipal Act, 1950 and appointed the administrators who will perform
the functions of the municipal councils and chairpersons.
As per
the order, Additional District Magistrate of Balangir has been appointed
as administrator of Balangir Municipality while Sub-Collectors of
Patnagarh, Titlagarh and Tehsildar of Kantabanjhi have been made
administrators of Patnagarh, Titlagarh and Kantabanjhi NACs,
respectively.
Similarly, the ADM of Bargarh and the Sub-Collectors
of Baragarh and Padmapur will take charge as administrators of Bargarh,
Barpali and Padmapur NACs.
Meanwhile, the State Election
Commission has set off the process for the election of Chairperson as
well as Mayor of the civic bodies and corporation by asking all elected
councillors and corporators of respective ULBS to remain present during
polling on September 30.
