3 held on charge of dumping waste
Three persons were held for disposing of animal
slaughter waste into the Alappuzha Chertala (AS) canal, where cleaning
activities are going on, Alappuzha MLA T.M.Thomas Isaac said
Mr.
Isaac told reporters here on Sunday that the three were held by the
health squad of the Alappuzha municipality and were imposed a fine of
Rs.25,000.
Biju Stephen of Arattuvazhi had allegedly
dumped waste from his shop into the canal in the early hours of Sunday.
Police have also registered a case in this regard. Steps to close down
the shop would be taken on Monday, he said.
He sought
the help and support of political and social organisations to shut down
the shops. The municipality had already served a notice on a famous
hotel in the town for emptying waste water into the canal.
