57.44 p.c. polling in HDMC elections
Over 50 per cent of people did not vote in nine wards in
the elections to the Hubli-Dharwad Municipal Corporation council
elections on Thursday.
Of the 6,56,767 people who are
eligible to vote, only 1,95,318 men and 1,81,944 women exercised their
franchise. The average polling percentage was 57.44.
While
just over 50 per cent cast their votes in 30 wards, the polling
percentage in 27 wards was over 60. Only in one ward did the figure
cross the 70 per cent mark. Ward no. 21 in Dharwad recorded the highest
polling percentage of 71.49, while the lowest polling percentage was in
ward no.13 at 44.01.
