86 ward members elected unopposed in civic polls
JAIPUR: Eighty-six candidates were declared elected unopposed as ward members in 39 civic bodies after the last day of withdrawal of nominations for the August 18 civic elections on Wednesday.
At present, a total of 10,131 candidates are left in the fray. Of these, 633 candidates are contesting for the post of chairmen and 9,498 for ward members in 126 civic bodies, a state election commission spokesman said.
Elections will be held to elect members to one municipal corporation (Ajmer), two municipal councils and 123 municipal boards. Counting of votes will be held on August 20.
Election for vice-chairmen and deputy mayors will be held on August 21.
For the first time, electronic voting machines will be used for voting in the local bodies elections in the state. Over 35,000 EVMs will be used, the spokesman said.
