931 nominations received for Corporation polls
12,292 nominations accepted in district
Kozhikode: As many as 12,292 nominations have been accepted after scrutiny for elections to the local bodies in Kozhikode district, according to a press release. The number of nominations rejected has been put at 296.
Five nominations received for district panchayat polls were rejected while 246 have been found to be valid.
Of the 931 nominations received for elections to the Corporation council, 909 were accepted. Twenty-one papers were rejected since these were not in order. One paper was set aside for further scrutiny.
For Koyilandy municipal polls, 249 nominations were received, out of which three were rejected. And in Vadakara municipality elections, all but one of the 284 nominations submitted were valid.
For elections to the block panchayats, 88 valid nominations have been accepted after rejecting five after scrutiny in Vadakara block panchayat.
The number of valid nominations for other block panchayats are: Tooneri-66, Kunnummel-58, Thodannur-79, Meladi-83 , Perambra-93, Balussery-103, Panthalayani-69, Chelannur-103, Koduvally-135, Kunnamangalam-132 and Kozhikode-104.
The highest number of valid nominations received for grama panchayat polls were in Chathamangalam (236), Kunnamangalam (209) and Unnikulam (208).
For Koorachundu panchayat polls, 81 nominations were filed, and 21 were rejected, leaving only 60 papers valid, thus making the panchayat the local body with the lowest number of nominations after scrutiny.
A clearer picture of the number of candidates contesting the polls would emerge only after the deadline for withdrawal of nominations expires at 3 p.m. on October 7.
