Gohil alleges misuse of JNNURM funds
AHMEDABAD: The rains on Saturday midnight have exposed not just entrails of the roads but also the rampant corruption in building infrastructure in the city. The funds received under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) have been misused, alleged leader of opposition in Gujarat assembly Shaktisinh Gohil.
He said that the rain exposed the corruption in the infrastructure projects run by the Gujarat government and Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation. The rains turned most of parts of Ahmedabad into islands just in one night, he said.
Gohil added that central government had given to Gujarat and Ahmedabad billions of rupees under JNNURM. But this money had not been properly used. Had the JNNURM funds being used properly, the people of Ahmedabad would have not faced difficulties which they faced on Sunday, he claimed.
The Congress leader also said that in the past the chief ministers stood by the people in hours of crisis, but the present CM did not even visit the affected areas. In the past governments usually shifted base to affected areas, but Narendra Modi did not go to flood affected places, he said adding, “The government has shown utter indifference to the problem of water logging in the low lying areas.”
